A quick & easy 3D project

Plastic canvas is a great invention as it allows you to stitch in 3 dimensions! It's inexpensive and I made this box from odds & ends of thick wool; all I had to buy was the canvas and the metallic threads I used on the corners.
This was done very much by experimentation; I cut 4 rectangular pieces and two square based on something like 60 holes x 40 and 40 x 40, then tried out various stitch patterns until I came up with one that seemed right. Remember not to stitch right up to the edge as you need one line of holes free for the joining stitches!

You can use a variety of stitches for different effects; you will find books about needlework/embroidery in your local library and most of them will have instructions on how to complete each stitch. |

When all the faces were complete, I stitched some spare material to the inside of each face to line it and hide the loose threads, trimmed the edges of the canvas then joined the faces together with the metallic thread. The edge that fuctions as a hinge was stitched less tightly to allow for movement. I added a button from my button-jar and a loop to fasten it and presented it to my dear long-suffering mother - who has a dressing table full of my various projects!
